Australian Merino Production Trial Shearing

Shearing of the 2023-2025 trial wethers
The second shearing of the 2023-2025 trial wethers will take place at the Temora Agriculture & Innovation Centre on the 20th & 21st February from approximately 8am.
All welcome to attend.
Australia’s largest commercial assessment of sheep genetics
With the trial offering a unique opportunity for Merino breeders to evaluate their flocks' genetic performance and productivity, it's the perfect time to get involved.
Each team will consist of 30 wethers, divided into two groups:
- 15 wethers will be sent to Fletchers' feedlot at Kiargathur Station, Condobolin
- 15 wethers will be run on pasture for two years at one of three locations: Yorke Peninsula, SA, Kiargathur Station, Condobolin, NSW, or Temora Ag & Innovation Centre, Temora, NSW.
Highlights:
- Year 1 analysis from the current trial revealed teams excelling in both paddock and feedlot environments.
- The final results of the current trial will be released in March.
This trial is an essential tool for self-replacing Merino breeders, offering a thorough analysis of genetic traits like fleece weight, reproduction, and carcass traits.
It is designed to benchmark genetic capacity, allowing breeders to evaluate the performance of their flocks in diverse environments. The trial parameters also offer team linkage across all participating sites, providing comprehensive data on how each team performs.
