A Dedicated Freight Service for Moses & Son Clients

In 1980, Moses & Son operated with its own internal freight infrastructure, a system integral to the company's operations, ensuring that wool bales were efficiently transported from farms to stores. However, as the business grew, it became evident that this internal infrastructure needed to evolve to accommodate the increasing volume of bales being handled

The Shift to Freight Contractors

In the early to mid-1990s, management made a strategic decision to transition to using a freight contractor. This move was driven by the need to accommodate the growing volume of bales as our business continued to expand. We began this new chapter with Graeme Crawford, a local from Temora, who served our needs with his infamous GM-powered “bird scarer.” After Graeme retired, Larry Purcell took over, followed by Neil Hitchener, each providing comprehensive, efficient, and dedicated freight services to our clients.

More recently, Chris and Tammy Heffer have been our inward freight contractors, serving not only Moses & Son but also other brokers. Their service has worked in tandem with our own fleet of smaller trucks operating in Temora, Wagga, Narrandera, and West Wyalong. These smaller trucks, driven by our staff, ensured the timely movement of smaller loads from farms to stores, complementing the larger scale services provided by Heffer Transport.

Re-evaluating Our Freight Model

In recent years, Moses & Son’s management team undertook a thorough examination of the efficacy of our existing freight model. After exhaustive analysis and strategic planning, we concluded that to maintain our company values and continue providing dedicated service to our clients, it was necessary to merge the large and small bale freight operations.

Introducing Our Client Freight Service

We are proud to announce that, starting from October 1, 2021, Moses & Son will be launching a dedicated and complete inward freight service for our clients. This service will be fully owned and operated by Moses & Son, focusing exclusively on inward wool bale freight.
