The Importance of Improving Wool Preparation
At Moses & Son, we prioritise working with Owners, Managers, and Wool Classers to ensure your wool clips are prepared to the highest standard. Our goal is to help you capitalise on efficiencies and maximise the competition for your wool.
We have recently enhanced our Wool Technical Service to ensure you’re maximising your profitability at shearing time.
Here’s how we can assist you in increasing your profits.
Correct Bale Weights
One of the key areas to focus on is ensuring correct bale weights. Our wool specialists offer calibration services for your Wool Press scales, using portable scales to weigh a sample of your pressed bales. This ensures accurate weights, helping you avoid unnecessary adjustment fees and optimising your bale weights for better returns.
NWD and Quality Schemes
Completing the National Wool Declaration (NWD) and joining Quality Schemes such as the Australian Wool Integrity Scheme can significantly boost the competition for your clip on the auction floor. Exporters are increasingly looking for declared wools to fill orders, and there is a growing demand for wool that meets these quality and sustainability standards.
Clip Analysis Report
Our Clip Analysis Report ties together test results, auction prices, and clip preparation into a comprehensive summary. This report is a valuable tool for reviewing past performance and includes recommendations for future preparation and marketing strategies, helping you make informed decisions.
Savvy Use of Interlotting and Bulk Class
Interlotting and bulk classing can be highly beneficial. By combining small lines of wool with similar bales from other growers, you can save on testing and sampling fees while increasing demand. Our service is well-respected among buyers for its quality and consistency.
Making the most out of e-bales and WoolClip
Traceability of the Australian wool clip is crucial in minimising the impact of an exotic disease outbreak. By using WoolClip and scanning your e-bales, you contribute significantly to safeguarding the industry from a potential nationwide shutdown.
Embracing the latest technology also allows you to benefit from enhanced quality control measures. Additionally, sharing clip data with your wool team and quickly accessing important information are just a few of the extra advantages it provides.
More about the National Wool Declaration (NWD)
The NWD allows wool growers to declare their animal welfare practices along with the Dark and Medullated Fibre Risk (DMFR). This declaration method is trusted throughout Australia and is crucial for responding to global customer requirements. Once completed, the NWD information is converted into a DMFR rating and/or Mob Status for inclusion in sale catalogues and test certificates.
